Throwback Thursday: Preparing for our 150th

Deanna Ferrante is Peddie's director of communications and marketing.

As you might have gleaned from our last blog entry, Peddie will be celebrating our sesquicentennial anniversary in 2013-14. All of us involved in the planning are now able to successfully pronounce sesquicentennial, so we must be on the right path. In preparing for our 150th year, I've been working with David "Doc" Martin, our resident Latin teacher and school archivist, to collect archival materials and photos for a variety of purposes. Our latest task was collecting athletic photos dating as far back as the 1860s for a project we will be doing in the athletic center. In honor of "Throwback Thursday," I wanted to share one of those photos with you.

This photo was marked "Varsity Captains 1929-30," and represents, from left to right, the sports of football, basketball, track, baseball, wrestling, swimming, and tennis.

Update: This photo appeared in the 1930 yearbook. Pictured from left are: Charles Richard Soleau '30, Cameron Rapelye VanderVeer '30, William Towen Lippe '31, John Clyde Bozorth '30, Emilu J. Troppoli '31, William Henry Muller '30, George Northtrop Letterman '30. Cam VanderVeer was also inducted into the Peddie Sports Hall of Fame in 1987 for football. His son Cameron '67 and grandson Cameron '99 also attended Peddie.
