Since I'm a quarter Chinese...

We asked our teachers and staff members to post about what they are up to this summer. One of our first responses comes from French teacher Rebekah Sandefer - sushi chef extraordinaire!

... I've always loved Chinese food. My Grandma Minnie makes the most delicious meals and no one has been able to replicate her stir-fries. Going out to Dim Sum is also a big treat when we visit. She's also the one who taught me how to use chopsticks and we used to practice with Golden Grahams. And I most definitely inherited her jet black straight hair.

Well, this summer I learned how to make sushi. (I wish I had learned from her, but she's on the other side of the country.) It was easier and more delicious than I expected for my first attempt. Nothing complicated for now, just some of the ingredients I love most:
--1 veggie roll: scallions, carrots, cucumber, avocado
--1 smoked salmon and avocado roll
--1 other rolls with varying amounts of the above ingredients

Got all my supplies at ShopRite. Who knew they would have the sushi roll mat?? (On a side note, my June basil plant is still alive and well, another big accomplishment for me.)
We begin.

Here's a picture of my Grandma with her first great grandson, whom she calls Prince William.

If only I could have her taste my sushi... I know she would give me expert advice!
