Jumping onto the stage: From frosh musical to Declamation contest
Activities/Interests: Peddie Debate Team, Public Speaking, Music, Writing, Blue Key Society, Community Day, and Special Olympics
Before I came to Peddie, I never thought that I would be interested in Public Speaking or performing in front of an audience at all. Freshman year, I took Freshman Musical for two terms and my class performed the Jr. version of High School Musical on the Peddie stage. My class received rave reviews. Several months before our premiere I decided to compete in the Declamation Speaking-Acting Contest run by former theater teacher Harry Holcombe who I worked with during the freshman musical. Each contestant had to pick, memorize, and recite a monologue for about two to three minutes. I did not place but I joined to have fun and take advantage of one of many Peddie opportunities. From that contest, I developed a passion for writing, speaking, and debating.
