Michelangelos in the science lab

Sarah Crider, Ph.D., is teaching a one-term elective titled, "Chemistry of Art & Archaeology." After studying frescos during a field trip last week, students began to work on their own masterpieces.

We have a group of Michelangelos making their own frescos! The class took a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art last Friday where they were introduced to the world of frescos like this one:

After learning about the chemistry behind
frescos during Monday's class the group laid down their arriccio layer on tile

Today they are applying pigment into
a fresh intonaco layer of their piece of art!
